Gunmen abduct musician in Bayelsa

A popular Ijaw musician, Pereama Freetown, was
on Sunday abducted in Bayelsa State by
unidentified gunmen.

The Nation gathered that before kidnapping their
target, the gunmen shot sporadically, killing one
Ebikabowei Mbu.

Several others were injured in the incident.

It was learnt that the incident occurred at about
3:00am in Polako community in Yenagoa local
government area of the state.

The assailants reportedly stormed the area during
a funeral wake keep, opened fire and forced people
to scamper to safety.

A source, who spoke in confidence, said the
gunmen came on speedboat through the Polako

He said: “They came, seized the musician and
opened fire in the area. People ran to different
directions. Many people were injured.

“Two persons, a male and a female, lay on the
ground after being hit by bullets. One, the male,
was confirmed dead on the spot but the female
whom we thought was dead later regained
consciousness. It was a terrible experience.”

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),
Mr. Butswat Asinim, an Assistant Superintendent of
Police (ASP) confirmed the incident.
